In the Fall of 1997 on a late evening, Steve, on the spur of the moment, painted in bright water colors this surf scene. Capturing every surfer’s illusion of the giant wave, the woody, the VW bug, and the shark lurking in the break, Steve also painted the absurd by adding what appears to be sunnyside eggs in the foreground. The eggs stretch onto the beach like an incoming wave onto the sand. Thinking no one would be attracted to the water color, it was hung in his studio and all but ignored by him. Much to his surprise everyone loved it, and it became affectionately known as “The Egg Picture”.
